Ecological Building

Throughout the world, the subject building and environment has become the most important subject of future building for both, the fast growing cities of a million people of the new upcoming countries with undeveloped infrastructure and the old countries with high-sophisticated but not sustainable built-up areas. For sustainable methods of resolutions, reasonable changes have to be included.
Ecological Building unites different visions and fields of attention. Keywords are for instance solar building, resource-saving building, renewable resources, ecological building materials, postfossil alternatives, building with clay, energy efficiency of buildings, material cycles, healthy living, climatically optimised buildings, sustainable urban development and sustainable mobility.

Ecological building becomes a necessary qualification for architects and planners. In future, the knowledge of ecological building will be taken for granted. Needs of humans and requirements of the environment have to be balanced.

Main focus is the development of ecological holistic concepts and its implementation. The connection between the specific fields and the practical experience is of utmost importance.
In the past, especially the development of buildings with basic building technology, low energy consumption and reasonable material compounds was significant. Concepts of water recycling and water cycles were developed and tested and its ecological evaluation was analysed.
At this stage, there are adequate methods of resolutions. The Environmental Passport for Buildings helps to evaluate the methods.
Future development will focus on more extended areas like quarters and settlements with single measures in mind. This procedure allows leveraging the networking of holistic concepts. Ecological building has to be part of building in general and might economically compete.
